One person is dead as the result of a collision involving a vehicle and train just west of Casper.

According to the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, sometime after 5:00 am, Monday, November 21, a call came in that a west-bound train had a struck a Ford pickup truck at the Bishop Haines crossing, just east of the airport and just off of 6 mile road.

The Sheriff’s Department says 87-year old Curtis Lovelace of Mills died on the scene.

He was driving a Ford 2-wheel drive pick-up when the Sheriff’s Department believes the vehicle got stuck on the train tracks.

It was estimated that the train was going about 38 miles per hour, and was pulling 124 cars when the collision occurred.
