5 Reasons The Pokes Can Hang With San Diego State Saturday
Laramie's War Memorial Stadium hasn't seen a game with this much at stake in years. In fact, you may have to go back to the 1996 season, twenty years ago.
Wyoming currently leads a three team race for the top of the Mountain West's Mountain Division. Boise State is tied with the Pokes, but thanks to UW's October 29th win over BSU, Wyoming owns the tie-breaker. New Mexico is a game behind both schools, and could get to the championship game if they go 2-0, because they play Wyoming next week.
On the west side of the division, San Diego State clinched the top spot two weeks ago. The Aztecs enter Saturday's contest in Laramie 6-0 in the conference, 9-1 overall, and are 10 point favorites.
But, we think there's room for optimism for Pokes fans on Saturday... here's why...
- 1
The Weather
Kickoff temperature will be in the mid-40's and sunny. Pleasant for Wyoming fans, but miserable for kids from San Diego!
- 2
Senior Day
Maybe we read too much into the emotion around days like this, but Wyoming's senior class with want to go out with a memorable performance at The War.
- 3
Both Teams Like To Run The Ball
Wyoming's defense has been a huge concern lately. But, with both teams ability to run the ball, it means the clock will be moving constantly, which equals less possessions for both teams.
- 4
The Fans
Pokes fans have a real opportunity to provide a tough atmosphere for SDSU to play in. If Wyo fans show up and are loud, they can really impact the way the Aztecs run their offense.

Wyoming's More Focused Than Ever
The sports cliche of "sometimes a loss is good" is a tough one. But, it certainly should restore the focus of this team, particularly the defense who will be eager to prove themselves after allowing 69 points to UNLV.
