Azealia Banks is such an ‘It’ girl. She has her own signature (and limited edition) shade of purple lipstick (dubbed ‘Yung Rapunxel‘) designed by MAC, which is available for a few more days. That is further proof that she has arrived. The volcano-hot rapper recently spoke about her love of cosmetics, the feminist nature of the ‘C’ word and her gay following. She is cruising towards icon status, this girl!

Banks is stoked about having her own lipstick since it “represents what I’m all about: being myself, no matter what it costs.” The shade is named after her alter ego Yung Rapunxel, whom Banks says “is that girl who pisses people off but doesn’t really mean to. She’s actually a sweetheart! But people are so taken aback that she’s so herself; she’s not even trying to be unique or different. She literally just lives in her head; she does what she wants to do. So, the lipstick is here for someone who is happy to be themself.”

Banks picked purple since the shade looks “really royal” against dark skin. She’s right. It looks soooo sexy on her amazing lips.

She also liberally used the ‘C’ word, explaining the origin of her usage. “Well, I’m from Harlem. I went to art school; I grew up with the c—s,” she said. “And that term doesn’t come from me! People think I invented it, but I didn’t. To be c—y is to be feminine and to be, like, aware of yourself. Nobody’s f—ing with that inner strength and delicateness. The c—s, the gay men, adore that. My friends would say, ‘Oh you need to c— it up! You’re being too banjee.’”

Banjee? WTF is that? Well, Banks explained, “‘Banjee’ means unrefined and rough. You need your c—s: they fix your hair for you and do your makeup. They give you confidence and give you life.”

Ah, ok. We think we get it. ‘C ‘words aside, Banks reaffirmed her bisexuality, saying that she has an affinity for her gay fans. That said, she doesn’t want to be “that girl” who “says all gays necessarily hang out together, of course! I have people say to me, ‘Oh wow, my friend is gay, too,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, so?’”

Azealia Banks is quickly ascending to the status of our fave ‘It’ girl!
