Beyonce and Blue Ivy’s High Hospital Security Under Scrutiny

Ring the alarm! Mama Bear Beyonce spared no measure — and no expense — when it came to privacy and safety during the birth of her and Jay-Z‘s baby girl, Blue Ivy.

Beyonce gave birth at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, and TMZ reports that every last detail was planned. Bey gave birth through a planned C-section late Saturday night (Jan. 7), so the hospital administrators knew when she — and baby Blue — would arrive. The hospital held a meeting on Friday afternoon (Jan. 6) to discuss security logistics for the delivery. Heavy security was put in place almost immediately following the meeting.

The New York Daily News provided further details on the security details. Hov and Bey plunked down $1.3 million to seal off and redecorate an entire sixth floor wing of the hospital near the NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit).

It appears the plan was successful, because no photos of Beyonce, Jay-Z or their family was taken in or outside of the hospital as of yet. However, the plan may have worked too well, because other new parents are a bit frustrated with the impedance on visitation with their own new babies.  One new father, Neil Coulon, said the hyper-private pair prevented him from seeing his wife and newborn premature twins.

“Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU and it happened once on Friday — just because they wanted to use the hallway,” Coulon told the Daily News. Coulon also claimed the star couple’s security team cleared the sixth floor waiting room, preventing his relatives from seeing his wife and baby girls, and that at one point he had to wait 20 minutes to get into the NICU. “This is the NICU. Nobody cares if you’re a celebrity. Nobody is star-gazing. They just want to see their children.”

While Beyonce and Jay-Z’s camps have yet to even confirm the delivery, let alone respond to the allegations of inconvenience, Lenox Hill staff were simultaneously oblivious and apologetic for the mishaps. “Some people were upset,” one staffer told the Daily News. “I heard a gentleman say he couldn’t go upstairs to see his baby [Saturday].” Meanwhile, the hospital spokeswoman claimed to have no idea of the issues. “We take patient satisfaction very seriously,” Silverman told the Daily News. “This is the first time I’m hearing about it.”

We have a feeling that until Beyonce and baby Blue are home safe and sound, it won’t be the last time Silverman hears about it. We understand the frustration of the fellow parents, but we also believe that the security measures were in the best interest for everyone. Considering the microscope and speculation Queen B and Jiggaman have been under since announcing the pregnancy, it’s difficult to imagine them handling the delivery any other way. They’re just being good parents — and keeping their baby and everyone else’s — safe from strangers (and their cameras).
