UNDATED (AP) — The Atlanta Braves remain baseball's hottest team after running their winning streak to nine games with a 9-0 pounding of the Nationals in Washington.

Paul Maholm (muh-HAH'-luhm) stifled the Nationals on four hits over seven innings while striking out seven. Maholm is 3-0 and hasn't allowed a run in 19 2/3 innings this season.

The Braves got him all the support he needed with three runs in the first inning, two on an RBI single by Chris Johnson. Andrelton Simmons hit a three-run homer and Justin Upton added a solo shot off Gio Gonzalez, who gave up seven runs in five innings.

The Braves are now 11-1 overall, 6-0 on the road and off to their best start since opening 13-1 in 1994.

In other major league play;

— Austin Jackson went 4-for-6 with a homer, three RBIs and three runs scored as Detroit ripped Oakland 10-1. Torii Hunter added two doubles and a triple as part of a 14-hit attack that allowed the Tigers to win for the third time in four games.

— Dustin Ackley snapped a sixth-inning tie with his first RBI of the season as Seattle beat Texas 4-3 to earn a split of the four-game series. Raul Ibanez (ih-BAHN'-yehz) hit a solo homer and Brandon Maurer gave up two runs in six innings for his first big league win.

— Mike Trout smacked his first homer of the season and Josh Hamilton added his second as the Los Angeles Angels downed Houston 4-1. Winning pitcher C.J. Wilson allowed a run and five hits in six innings.

— Hiroki Kuroda (hih-ROH'-kee kuh-ROH'-dah) picked up his fifth major league shutout by limiting Baltimore to five hits in the New York Yankees' 3-0 victory. Brett Gardner hit his first home run off a lefty since July 2010, a two-run shot in a three-run fifth.

— Clay Buchholz didn't allow a hit until Kelly Johnson's broken-bat single leading off the eighth inning, and Boston went on to beat Tampa Bay 5-0. Buchholz allowed two hits and four walks in eight innings and struck out a career-high 11.

— Jake Peavy struck out 11 in seven innings as the White Sox beat Cleveland 3-1 to end a five-game skid. Peavy gave up a home run to Michael Bourn on his first pitch of the game but held the Indians to five hits overall and didn't walk a batter.

— Hunter Pence crushed a game-tying solo homer with two out in the ninth before San Francisco scored three times in the 10th to beat the Cubs 10-7 in Chicago. Shawn Camp served up the tying blast and committed a balk that brought in the winning run.

— Arizona pulled out a 1-0 win over Los Angeles on Paul Goldschmidt's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Dodgers starter Josh Beckett went the distance on a six-hitter but fell to 0-2.

— Colorado is 6-0 versus San Diego this season after pinch-hitter Todd Helton clubbed a two-run homer in the seventh inning of the Rockies' 2-1 verdict over the Padres. Jorge De La Rosa worked six innings and combined with three relievers on a two-hitter.

— Jonathan Lucroy hit a solo home run in the 10th inning as Milwaukee rallied past St. Louis 4-3 and avoided a sweep at Busch Stadium. The Brewers trailed 3-0 until Ryan Braun hit a two-run homer off reliever Trevor Rosenthal with no outs in the eighth.

— Backup catcher Michael McKenry had the first two-homer game of his four-year major league career to help Pittsburgh rally for a 10-7 win over Cincinnati. Starling Marte hit a tiebreaking two-run drive in a six-run eighth inning, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates comeback from a five-run deficit.

— Roy Halladay earned his 200th career victory as Philadelphia edged Miami 2-1. Halladay allowed five hits and lowered his ERA from 14.73 to 7.63 with his first win of the year.

— Alex Gordon drove home Chris Getz with a single in the ninth inning to give Kansas City a 3-2 win over Toronto and avoid a series sweep. Edwin Encarnacion (ehn-kahr-nah-see-OHN') homered and drove in both runs for the Blue Jays, who had won six straight and eight of 10 against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

— The Mets-Twins game in Minneapolis was postponed by foul weather. It'll be made up Aug. 19.

UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Cubs tied a major league record when Edwin Jackson and Michael Bowden combined to throw five wild pitches in an inning. Jackson threw two and Bowden three as the San Francisco Giants scored four runs in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead in what became a 10-7, 10-inning win over Chicago.

Also in the majors, San Diego's Carlos Quentin has dropped his appeal and began serving an eight-game suspension on Sunday. He was punished for rushing the mound and inciting a brawl during a game Thursday in which Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee) broke his left collarbone.

Miami reserve outfielder Austin Kearns has been taken to a hospital with an irregular heartbeat. Kearns was originally in the lineup for Sunday's game against Philadelphia but felt ill once he got to the ballpark.

The Cubs have placed catcher Steve Clevenger on the 60-day disabled list because of a strained left abdomen suffered in Saturday's loss to San Francisco. The Cubbies also claimed pitcher Kameron Loe off waivers from Seattle and optioned right-hander Rafael Dolis to Triple-A Iowa.

The Washington Nationals have placed catcher Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
