UPDATE: Power has been restored as of 12:18 p.m. Dave Eskelsen of the Rocky Mountain Power newsroom  the outages stem from the Western Area Power Administration's electrical distribution system, which serves Laramie.

University of Wyoming Operations Executive Director John Davis said in an email to UW students and staff that the outages were wind-related and that UW campus buildings east of 15th Street were affected.

A major power outage affecting a good portion of the city of Laramie occurred Friday, at approximately 11:13 a.m.

According to Rocky Mountain Power, 7,343 customers have been affected.

The cause of the outage is not yet known. Crews have been dispatched to investigate the cause and make repairs.

Rocky Mountain Power’s initial estimate for repair is 1:30 p.m.
