‘Canadian Idol’ runner up Carly Rae Jepsen just got what may be the biggest break of her life. The ‘Call Me Maybe’ singer was just signed to Justin Bieber‘s record label!

Jepsen, who’s currently on tour with Hanson, made the announcement on MuchMusic last night with a special recorded message from Bieber.

“I teamed up with Scooter Braun and Jimmy Iovine,” Bieber said in the video. “When I was in Canada, I heard a song on the radio called ‘Call Me Maybe,’ and I thought it was a smash,” Bieber continued. “So I started doing my research and stuff, and found out who it was. Her name is Carly Rae Jepsen, and I want everyone to know we signed her so everyone can check her out. She’s gonna blow up.”

Jepsen was almost moved to tears at the conclusion of the clip. “I’m speechless. It’s an exciting journey we’re going on,” she said of her contract with Braun’s Schoolboy Records, “and I’m very grateful and very excited.”

Scooter Braun called in to the show as well. “Justin was there [Toronto] for his Christmas special, and he heard the song and called me: ‘There’s this song, it’s the best pop song out there. You gotta hear it, you gotta watch the video,’” Braun said. “So I watched it, and I said, ‘You know Justin? You’re absolutely right.’” Braun was excited. “The last time I worked with a Canadian, it worked out really well.”

Then Bieber got on the phone, making Jepsen cry (and giggle)! “I’m excited for you to be able to come out to L.A. and work on your album,” he told her. When asked if there’s a chance for a collaboration, Biebs replied, “There’s going to be a lot of stuff in the future, so just watch out.”

Bieber has ulterior motives for the signing. Not only does he love Jepsen (as girlfriend Selena Gomez pointed out in January), but he also wants to break more Canadian artists worldwide. Considering his huge, rabid fanbase will pretty much do anything he says, this should be pretty easy.
