Cheyenne area law enforcement agencies and community members gathered on the lawn of the Wyoming Supreme Court building Friday night to honor and remember those lost in the line of duty.

"These law enforcement heroes were husbands, sons, brothers, uncles and fathers," said Wyoming Highway Patrol Colonel Kebin Haller. "Lost, but never forgotten."

Since 1877, 67 Wyoming peace officers have lost their lives serving and protecting their communities.

"Not everyone is willing to step in front for others," said Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen. "It's a rare, rare commodity."

"Sacrifices become a fact of life," said Colonel Haller. "But these sacrifices in difficult times will not divide our (law enforcement) family, but unite us as a stronger one to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice."
