A Cheyenne woman is behind bars after stabbing her ex-boyfriend with a steak knife.

Laramie County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to 110 Montalto Drive around 3:00 a.m. this morning.

"Ms. (Pamela) Deguzman had been out at an unknown bar and when she came home to the Montalto address she saw her ex-boyfriend sleeping on the couch," said Captain Linda Gesell.

"She began hitting him," added Gesell.  "Shortly after that (she took) a standard kitchen steak knife and stabbed him in the lower left side of his back."

Gesell believes alcohol combined with a recent breakup may have caused the 26-year-old to attack her ex.

"The two had previously been in a dating relationship for approximately nine years," said Gesell. "It was my understanding that it was broke off about a month and a half ago, however both still resided in the same residence."

Deguzman was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for aggravated assault. She faces up to 10 years if convicted.

Her ex-boyfriend was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was treated for a 1.5 inch cut and released.
