City Reminds Property Owners To Not Shovel Snow On The Streets

Yes, it's a mess.

And yes, we're neighbors.

The City of Casper reminds commercial and residential property owners and tenants that shoveling or pushing snow into the street or the gutter is prohibited, according to a news release from the City Manager's office on Tuesday.

Instead of shoveling the snow into the street from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks, property owners should put it on the lawn or landscaping.

Likewise, they should not shovel it where it may block sidewalks or driveways and parking lot entrances.

The constant and excessive winds can form drifts, which cause problems especially if the snow is shoveled on the streets.

The drifts may cause streets to become slick or impassable. They also can turn into hard-packed snow banks that pose a hazard to vehicles and emergency responders.

The city also reminds property owners that, while not required by ordinance, keeping and maintaining the sidewalks clear of snow and ice will help pedestrians, children walking to school, and delivery personnel safely navigate the sidewalks.

Likewise, business owners should keep the sidewalks open so customers can safely access their businesses.
