The Nets hit just two field goals in the third period and shot 35 percent for the game. Brook Lopez had a game-high 21 points for Brooklyn, but Deron Williams finished with just eight on 1-of-9 shooting.

Game 3 is Thursday in Chicago.

UNDATED (AP) — It was a rewarding day for Knicks guard J.R. Smith, a painful one for Hawks forward Josh Smith and a bitter one for Suns general manager Lance Blanks.

J.R. Smith is the winner of the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award, receiving 72 first-place votes and 484 points in the balloting of sports reporters. The eight-year veteran averaged 18.1 points in 80 games off the bench.

Jamal Crawford of the Clippers was second in the voting with 352 points and 31 first place nods.

Josh Smith missed Monday's practice because of a sprained right ankle. Smith received treatment on the ankle, and the team is hopeful he will be able to go in Game 2 against Indiana on Wednesday.

Coach Larry Drew says Smith sustained the injury late in Game 1 while scoring 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Atlanta's 107-90 defeat.

Blanks is out after three seasons as GM of Phoenix. The Suns finished 25-57 this season, the second-worst record in franchise history behind the 16-66 effort in their inaugural season in 1968-69.
