A balanced scoring attack, with three players in double figures, combined with 50 percent shooting from 3-point range helped the Wyoming Cowboys snap a five-game conference losing streak Wednesday night at the Arena-Auditorium. UW defeated the Nevada Wolfpack 68-48, as they won their first MW game since an upset of then #14 San Diego State on January 19.

Leonard Washington said, "I felt like tonight was one of our better defensive nights in the conference play so far. We did what we needed to do and made them take a few tough shots. They made a couple of good shots early in the game, but we just wanted to eliminate that and continue to play hard on defense."

Wyoming (17-7, 3-7) hit 9 three's, shot 71.4 percent in the second half, took advantage of 16 Nevada turnovers and snagged 11 steals. Washington scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double this season. Derrious Gilmore followed with 15 points and Josh Adams has 12. UW shot 23-43 (53.5%) from the field, 9-18 (50%) from beyond the arc and went 13-20 (65%) on free throws. They out-rebounded the Wolfpack 27-23.

Nevada (12-12, 3-7) was led by Deonte Burton with 13 points, Malik Story had 11 and Kevin Panzer chipped in 10. They shot 19-43 (44.2%) on field goals, were 5-12 (41.7%) from 3 and 5-8 (62.5%) at the charity stripe.

Wyoming knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to start the second stanza and never led by less than 11 points the rest of the game. Their largest lead was at 59-36 with 7:17 to play on a Gilmore 3-pointer.

Head coach Larry Shyatt said the separation came two ways, "We knocked in some 3's, which is a pleasure to see, and from a couple of really good defensive series."

Three straight 3-point field goals keyed a 14-4 run over the last 6:38 of the first half and gave the Cowboys a 29-19 lead at halftime. Sobey hit two straight 3's followed by an Adams 3 that broke a 15-15 tie. Sobey had nine points in the first half, all on 3's, as the Pokes went 5-of-10 from deep.

Sobey said, "I'm always ready for whenever my team needs me to come off the bench. Credit to my team and the coaches for I was in the right spot at the right time."

This was the Pokes largest conference win since a 23-point victory over CSU back in 2002.

Wyoming returns to action Saturday at the AA, as they host the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Cowboys lost their first meeting on the road a month ago and will seek revenge with a 2 p.m. tip-off. You can listen to Cowboy basketball on Y95 Country, as coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. Cowboy Talk, with host David Settle, will follow the broadcast.
