Cynthia Guy Trial Still Set For January; Judge Denies Requests For Deadline Extensions
Recent changes in attorneys for Cynthia Guy, accused of hiring a hit man to kill her ex-husband, will not alter deadlines before her trial in January, Natrona County District Court Judge Catherine Wilking said Wednesday.
"I could not have been more clear that the deadlines would remain in effect," Wilking told Guy's new attorney Tom Jubin of Cheyenne.
Guy, a former therapist at the Central Wyoming Counseling Center, allegedly asked two of her patients in May 2014 if they knew anyone who would kill her ex-husband in exchange for their early release from their program at the CWCC.
Counseling Center administrators alerted law enforcement, which set up a meeting with an undercover agent, who recorded the conversation.
She has had several court ordered mental evaluations between the time of her arrest. Guy is being held on $250,000 bond. If convicted, she could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Guy was initially represented by the Public Defender's Office. In June, she hired private counsel, and Wilking agreed to change the trial date from September to January.
However, that attorney withdrew and Jubin recently took the case, he said. He told Wilking he needed more time and deadline extensions so he could properly represent Guy.
But Wilking told Jubin that he should have known the timetable.
She did grant him an additional 15 days to file responses to motions from the District Attorney's Office.
But no more, she said. "I'm not going to extend those deadlines."
