Dave Grohl will guest star on an upcoming episode of The Muppets.

The Foo Fighters leader will appear on the Dec. 1 episode of the recently resurrected TV series when it airs at 8PM EST on ABC. In an episode that will also feature Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Grohl will challenge his, for all intents and purposes, Muppets counterpart, Animal, to a drum-off.

It’s a rivalry that dates back to Grohl’s appearance in the 2011 feature-length film, The Muppets. For his part, Grohl played Animal’s stand-in for a Muppets cover band dubbed the Moopets. (The Foos frontman adopted the stage name Animool, naturally.) Watch a clip of Grohl's cameo at the bottom of the page.

Foo Fighters recently concluded their extensive tour behind last year’s Sonic Highways. Last month, the band launched a mysterious countdown on their website, which will run out on Nov. 23. Some believe an album or EP of new material is imminent, while others think the second season of Grohl's HBO series, Sonic Highways, is on its way.
