The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement, saying strong wind gusts and low relative humidity will cause elevated fire weather conditions for much of northern, central, and southern Wyoming this afternoon and into the early evening.

Relative humidity will drop into the teens this afternoon and evening across the lower elevations of Johnson and Natrona Counties including Casper Mountain, the Big Horn Basin, Wind River Basin, the Green Mountains, the Upper Green River Basin, Southern Lincoln County, as well as Sweetwater County. We can expect west winds to briefly increase in speed to 10 to 20 m.p.h. with occasional afternoon gusts 25 to 30 m.p.h. There is also the possibility that lightning could also create new fire starts from any afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

The Weather Service is encouraging residents, travelers, and campers to take
strong caution if considering any type of burning activities, and to please follow local burning rules and restrictions.
