One person is dead in a crash on Casper Mountain this afternoon.

The Highway Patrol says at roughly 5pm Wednesday, a driver of an SUV was heading down the mountain near the lookout, when for unknown reasons, they drove off the road near mile marker 6.5.

The truck rolled down the side of the mountain for about 100 feet when it struck a tree.

The truck burst into flames and the driver died before fire units could get there.

The identity and gender of the driver are not known at this time.

The road was reopened at 8:30pm Wednesday night.
