More than five hundred seniors and homebound citizens in Natrona county benefit from the work of Natrona County Meals on Wheels, and the Meals On Wheels Foundation wants to make sure that work continues. The Foundation will be holding a fundraiser Saturday, April 29th, to help ensure the future of Meals On Wheels.

Nicole Tholson, the Meals On Wheels Foundation's Executive Director, says the Meals On Wheels organization, which handles the day-to-day operations, and the Foundation are separate entities.  The Foundation's goal is to create an endowment for future needs. "We want to make sure that when there are funding cuts, if there's a huge increase in demand, if something breaks, if we need a different building, all of those things, we want to have the money to make sure Meals On Wheels can continue to serve the community."

Tholson says right now, Meals On Wheels is looking at a shortfall between $150,000 and $200,000 for the year. "They're sending 550 meals out the door," she says, "so we want to make sure they can continue to do that and that no seniors or homebound citizens have to go hungry."

The "Baskets For Love" event will be Saturday, April 29th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Casper Shriners Club, 1501 W. 39th Street. It's a casual, family friendly event and admission is free. There will be snacks, drinks for sale, and live music from Sue Morrison and Friends

The Silent Auction, which runs until 7:30 p.m., includes a number of items including Rockies gear and tickets, massages, facials, toy baskets, stuff for kids, family activities around town. The Live Auction starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes a fishing basket, golfing, a rental house in Arizona, and more.
