Fire Crews Put Out Small Fire In West Casper On Sunday

Casper Fire-EMS put out a small fire at an apartment in west Casper on Sunday, according to a news release from the department.

Fire crews responded to a report from neighbors of an activated smoke detector and a smell of smoke at 4134 Talon Drive about 5:20 p.m., according to the news release.

They found a small fire in the kitchen of the apartment and quickly extinguished it. Smoke permeated the apartment and crews remained on scene to clear it from affected areas.

Investigators determined a the fire started because a box containing new pots and pans was placed on the stovetop. The stove was accidentally turned on, and the box caught fire.

Five units from Casper Fire-EMS and one unit from Wyoming Medical Center responded to the call. The news release did not say if anyone was injured in the incident.

Casper Fire-EMS reminds people to use caution and remain attentive while cooking. Keep anything flammable including towels, oven mitts, and wooden utensils away from stove tops. Install and maintain working smoke detectors on every level of your home.

Check your smoke detectors monthly, and replace any that are 10 years old or older.
