A part of Casper College, the Tate Geologic Museum will have you digging for bones. You will know you have the right place when you find the giant T-Rex statue outside. It is also home to the second most popular Wyoming artifact - Dee the Mammoth.

“Teriffic!!!!!” from coloradocarol on TripAdvisor.com

We loved the Tate! You will love it too if you have any interest in dinosaurs, fossils, or rocks.

My initial reaction upon entering was “Oh, it is just one big room”. But that one big space was packed with wonderful displays and excellent explanatory signs. There were even drawers filled with things you could touch – bones, arrowheads, rocks, etc. The highlight of the museum is Dee, “the largest mounted Columbian Mammoth in North America”.

We were visiting as a family of three adults and we were entranced! Families were there with children and they seemed to get a lot out of the Tate also.

After more than an hour, my husband’s comment was “I feel like my brain is exploding!” There is so much to see and learn. We visited for about two hours -- absorbing all we could. But that only made us want to come back another day and spend 2 more hours concentrating on a single area within the museum, then another day spent on yet another area . . . . for days and days.

If it was not for our Veterans, our country would not be what it is today. This is not your typical military museum. It is a salute to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedom.

“Very Nice” from Inafus on TripAdvisor.com

This was a very interesting place to visit. My 12 year old grandson was impressed and the tributes were inspiring. We learned a lot here and I would recommend it.

“Great and informative” from James C. on TripAdvisor.com

A very interesting museum that had a lot of great displays. Very informative and highly focused on the veterans', even got some unique relics that couldn't be found anywhere else. If you're at Wyoming, this is really a great place to see.

National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is a gateway to the trails of the old west. The goal of the museum is to educate the public on both American Western and Native American culture.

"Crossing the country in 1840" from Arthur R. on TripAdvisor.com

One of the best museums I have ever visited. Sitting in a stage coach and watching a video that made it seem I was crossing the prairie or sitting in a covered wagon and crossing a river were just 2 of the spectacular exhibits. Great for all ages.

"Extraordinary museum" from James W. on TripAdvisor.com

The low-slung, prairie-style building is on a hill above the Plate River, which I learned was the jumping off spot for a variety of trails: Oregon, Mormon, Gold Rush, Pony Express. The effect of these trails on the prairie Indians is a key theme. The exhibits are interactive and draw you in. It was a mind-blower to me. As the Michelin Guide might say: "worth a special journey."

History lives at Fort Caspar. Visit the reconstructed 1865 military base where you can see what it was like to live in the wild west. The museum also showcases artifacts from the pioneers, Native Americans, and prehistoric days.

“It will surprise you!” from MamaGoGo on TripAdvisor.com

A nice spot to stop. The kids (6 & 12) enjoyed looked at the buildings in the fort and walking on the grounds. The indoor exhibits gave a nice look at Wyoming history and life. Worth the time to stop. Overall it took less than 2 hours to see.

“Well worth a look-see; for all ages” from WSUtraveler on TripAdvisor.com

Great historical recreation of cavalry outpost hosting many buildings and all contain period furniture, uniforms, and supplies. Very nicely done. Also has a very nice inside museum of local history. $3 covers all and self-guided tour not overly time-consuming. Small gift store but quite an array of books for purchase for the history buffs. Well worth a look-see and enjoyable for all ages.

This museum displays the hunting trophies of Herman Werner. It was established in the 60s with a focuses on Wyoming's wildlife although it does contain animals from around the world.

“Great exhibits” from CasperKellygirl on TripAdvisor.com

We visited with our grandson and he was excited to see so many animals. Very nice to educate kids about Wyoming's wildlife as well as a few animals from around the world. There was no fee and it is a great place to spend an afternoon with kids.

“Who Knew? A great surprise close to home! Birds Collection is AMAZING!” from liberty112 on TripAdvisor.com

We live only blocks away from the Werner Wildlife Museum and we finally decided to spend an afternoon exploring what it had to offer. What a great surprise it was!
The lady working there was so kind and friendly and welcomed our large family and children and gave us a small talk about what the museum had to offer. She gave us coloring sheets for the little ones and scavenger hunt papers for our older children.
The animal displays are great and there is a wide variety of animals to look and learn about. Our favorites were the brown bear that was not "brown" in color and also the albino deer.

There is a basement to the museum also, so don't let the size outside fool you. The basement had a very impressive collection of birds, more mammals, and some fish displays. The bird collection is really very large and varied and I will probably come back again someday just to look at the birds again.
