Governor Matt Mead is asking for an agricultural disaster to be declared for most of the state, due to drought conditions.

According to a press release from the Governor’s office, Mead is asking United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, to issue an agricultural disaster declaration for every county in Wyoming except Teton.

A disaster declaration could provide federal emergency assistance to Wyoming ag producers.

Mead was quoted, in the press release, as saying “Wyoming farmers and ranchers are struggling to work through serious impacts caused by drought.”

Mead went on to cite grazing loss and dry-land hay loss as reasons for the declaration request.
