When's the last time you used a pay phone? It's probably been a while.

In 2011, there were 16 pay phone service providers operating in the state of Wyoming.

As of January 5, 2017, only five of them are still in businesses. Which frankly, is five more than I thought there would be.

We're not sure exactly how many pay phones are left, but according to payphone-project.com, there are  still thousands of functioning pay phones here in the Cowboy State.

Their national registry lists active pay phone numbers across the state, including over 100 operational pay phones in Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie.

That might sound like a lot, until you consider that, not long ago, there was a pay phone at nearly every convenience store, governement building and restaurant in the state.

In many smaller towns across Wyoming, you'll be hard pressed to find any pay phones.

However, if you're ever stranded on the side of the road in Manville, Wyoming, you might have better luck calling from the one pay phone in town (at the Manville Post Office) than finding a cell signal.
