Wyoming has voted Republican in the last 12 presidential elections.

However, Wyoming wasn't always the conservative political stronghold it is today. In fact, 8 Democratic candidates have carried the Cowboy State over the years.

The last Democratic presidential candidate to win Wyoming was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.

Harry Truman claimed victory in 1948.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt carried Wyoming in 1932, 1936 and 1940.

Woodrow Wilson also won twice in Wyoming, defeating Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and Charles Hughes in 1916.

The only other democratic candidate to carry Wyoming was William Jennings Bryant, who lost the national election to Republican William McKinley in 1896.

Although the Wyoming electorate has overwhelmingly supported Republican candidates in recent years, three of Wyoming's last five governors were Democrats.

Wyoming has elected 12 Democratic governors since being granted statehood in 1890. Among them was Nellie Taloe Ross, who became America's first female governor in 1925.
