A geologist is offering several options for the town of Jackson to permanently shore up a massive, slow-moving landslide that destroyed one home and evacuated dozens of others in April.

All of the options presented to town officials on Tuesday, June 3rd, would be expensive, costing anywhere from $8 million to $25 million.

The landslide began in early April.

The ground dropped 10 feet on April 17th, but since then has slowed down to less than an inch of movement per week.

Nearly all residents since have returned home.

Now, geologist George Machan is proposing a range of long-term solutions.

Machan proposes to remove dirt and rock from the top of the slide zone.

In addition, Machan suggests installing heavy barriers or underground cables to hold the earth in place.
