Every year, we all make resolutions to eat less, work out more, and pretty much change the way we've been living our lives up until now. Sometimes, we even mean it, but, usually, by the end of January, we're back to our old habits.

Thanks to the folks at the Casper Rec Center, you have a chance to shed those unwanted pounds by doing something you actually enjoy - which, of course, will make it much easier to hit your fitness goals for the year:


The Casper Recreation Center’s new session of Sports & Martial Arts classes begins the week of January 6 or later. Learn new skills or improve on the ones you already have in Tumbling & Gymnastics, Fencing, Kenpo Karate, TaeKwon-Do and Archery.

The Gym Jam class for ages 2-3 meets Wednesday at 11:05 am. Toddlers will move, tumble, and play games while improving motor skills and spending time with parent or other adult family member. Tot Tumbling for ages 4-5 is offered Wednesday at 4:30 pm or Saturday at 9:00 am. Youth Beginning Gymnastics for ages 6 and over and is held on Wednesdays at 5:15 pm or Saturday at 9:45 am. There’s also a new Homeschool class on Wednesday at 10:00 am. Advanced Beginning Gymnastics class for those in between Beginning and Intermediate levels will meet Wednesday at 6:20 pm. Intermediate Gymnastics for ages 7 and up (must have permission of the instructors) meets on Saturday at 10:50 am.

Kenpo Karate class will meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 7:15-8:45 pm for traditional Okinawan Karate. This class is for ages 8 & up unless an adult signs up with the child.

TaeKwon-Do class for ages 8 and up will meet on Tuesday & Thursday from 5:30-7:00 pm and the advanced class also meets on Friday evenings. Younger children may take the class if accompanied by an adult.

Fencing classes for ages 9 through adults introduces students to the Olympic sport of Fencing with basic foot work and use of the Foil. Students with prior experience will brush up on their basic skills and work on more advanced moves. Class is held on Monday at 6:30 pm beginning January 13.

Archery classes teach safety and proper shooting fundamentals to allow life-long enjoyment of the sport. Ages 9-12 meet on Monday at 4:30 or 5:30 pm, ages 13-18 meet Tuesday at 4:30 pm and adults meet Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
