Lana Del Rey Announces Next Single Will Be ‘National Anthem’

Lana Del Rey is reportedly planning to release ‘National Anthem’ as the fourth single from her debut album ‘Born to Die,’ following ‘Video Games,’ the title track and ‘Blue Jeans.’

Del Rey was quoted as saying, “I’m afraid I have to sadly postpone my performance at Soho House New York on Monday, I have to go and shoot the music video for my next single ‘National Anthem’. I will be back to join you all for a roof top performance in August – see you soon.”

Digital Spy reported the remarks, though it was unclear where or to whom Del Rey made the comments. Canceling a gig to shoot a video seems unusual, but Del Rey has had success doing things her own way. Her debut album ‘Born to Die’ hit No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 1 in the U.K. in January.

‘National Anthem’ opens with strings and the sound of fireworks, followed by Del Rey sing-rapping, “Money is the anthem of success / So before we go out what’s your address? / I’m your national anthem, God, you’re so handsome / Take me to the Hamptons, Bugatti Veyron.”

Del Rey and co-writer Justin Parker earned a prestigious honor yesterday when ‘Video Games’ won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song, beating out tracks by James Blake and Nero. Adele and Ed Sheeran were the event’s other big winners.
