CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A coalition of groups representing interests including conservation, animal protection and press freedom is challenging a pair of laws Wyoming enacted this year that restrict data collection on open land.

The coalition filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Cheyenne claiming that the state's laws limiting data collection are unconstitutional. The laws prohibit collecting information about natural resources without authorization from the landowner or lessee.

The coalition includes Western Watersheds Project, National Press Photographers Association, Natural Resources Defense Council, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and Center for Food Safety.

The lawsuit claims that the groups have reported concerns about pollution and treatment of animals.

Wyoming Attorney General Peter Michael declined comment on the lawsuit on Tuesday, saying he hasn't had a chance to review it in detail.
