Debra Lee was named Laramie County Clerk on Tuesday, filling a vacancy left by the death of Debbye Lathrop.

"I'm very humbled to be serving in this capacity," said Lee. "It is an honor to follow in Debbye's footsteps and I hope to continue the high level of service and even make improvements on things as we move forward."

Lee, who is an Office Support Specialist for the Wyoming Secretary of State's Elections Division, will serve out the remainder of Lathrop's term, which expires the end of 2018. She plans to seek a full four-year term after that.

Lathrop, a Republican, served as clerk from 1994 until her passing on May 18.
