Lil Wayne Speaks Out on OKC Thunder Snub

Lil Wayne is not happy about being snubbed by the Oklahoma City Thunder — so much so that he may never return to OKC.

As previously reported, Weezy planned to go see OKC Thunder take on the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals, but was denied entry into the Oklahoma City arena. The officials wouldn’t let the rapper sit courtside, nor would they allow him to enter from anywhere other than the main entrance. This would have posed security risks not only to Weezy but also to fans.

Now, Lil Wayne claims that he believes his snub may have been racially motivated. The Hollywood Reporter says that Wayne felt “unwanted” at the game. Aww, Weezy! However, some people did want him there: the OKC Thunder’s players actually offered him tickets, but he declined.

“We’d have loved to have him here in Oklahoma City,” Thunder player Kevin Durant said. “We’d have welcomed him with open arms. Hopefully, we get past that and next time he can come and enjoy a game.”

Though Wayne appreciated the offer from Durant and his teammates, he was operating on principle. “That’s not the point,” Wayne said. “It’s the players stepping up but of course the players aren’t white. I don’t want to be sitting there on behalf of you and I’m sitting next to a (person) that’s like ‘I don’t want this (guy) sitting next to me.’ (Forget) you … I’m in Forbes.”

For their part, the team officials insist that the front row courtside seats were sold out, but that they offered Wayne other seats a row behind, which he refused.

Weezy said that his presence would pump the players up — we can see that! “That’s like me going on stage and … seeing LeBron (James) in the crowd with his hand up. I’m going to perform a little bit harder.”
