Miley Cyrus may have seemed devastated by her split from Liam Hemsworth in her 'Wrecking Ball' video and live performances in which she actually broke down in tears, but she insists the breakup was for the best.

“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year,” Cyrus told Barbara Walters in her 'Most Fascinating People' interview. “I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”

Cyrus also admits that she and Hemsworth were probably too young to get engaged, but that doesn't mean she regrets the decision.

“I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged,” she confessed. “It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”

And as for the cheating rumors about Hemsworth? She still doesn't buy them. “I don’t think there was any, any lies,” she said firmly. As for whether she ever wants to get married and commit to someone for life, Cyrus is more mature than you'd expect: “I think I’ll want that in the times that it needs to be.”
