A fatal crash in the early morning hours of September 7th near Sheridan, Wyoming has resulted in the death of 25 year old Derrick B. Coversup of Billings, Montana. The crash happened at 3:30 a.m. on Wyoming State Highway 335 approximately 14 miles southwest of Sheridan.

Mr. Coversup was the front seat passenger of a small sedan being driven by 27 year old Sheridan resident Avis Blacksmith. The car was traveling north on a downgrade when it drifted off the highway to the right. The car was overcorrected back onto the road causing it to trip and roll.

Coversup was ejected during the crash as he was not wearing his seat belt. He died at the scene. Blacksmith was wearing her seat belt and was taken to Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Sheridan.

Lakendra Maxwell, 23 years old from Billings, was a backseat passenger during the crash but was not buckled up. Maxwell has been taken to Billings for her injuries.

Alcohol use and speed are being investigated in this crash. Charges are unknown at this time. The crash did cause a temporary closure of the highway. This crash is projected to be the 105th highway fatality crash in Wyoming for 2015.
