The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced one area in Natrona County will open soon for outdoor recreation, while another is closed temporarily.

The BLM will open Muddy Mountain Road on Friday.

Muddy Mountain Road is closed for about six months every year for public safety and resource protection, according to a news release.

The closure normally runs from the end of November through the beginning of June.

There are still some areas that are wet.

Use caution when traveling on the mountain to prevent resource damage.

The road is the primary access route to the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area, which includes two campgrounds and numerous recreation trails.

Meanwhile, the BLM has temporarily closed the Buffaloberry campground near Alcova because of flooding on the road and potential public safety and resource concerns.

A portion of the Buffaloberry campground will remain open to day-use.

However, no camping or traffic over the flooded portion of the road will be permitted.
