Maybe you got the interesting news of a Wyoming landslide that just created a new lake. Mother Nature can build a dam fast, like on Willow Creek south of Jackson. The lake is already 20 acres and 200 feet deep. (And growing?) Well, believe it or not, this is not the first time a landslide made a new lake in Wyoming.

Also in the Bridger-Teton National Forrest, Lower Slide Lake was created on June 23, 1925. Called the Gros Ventre landslide, another dam manifested itself on the Gros Ventre River. The lake was once much larger until part of the rock dam failed less than two years later. The break caused deadly flooding downstream on May 18, 1927.

The lower level is still called a natural lake to this day, stocked with cutthroat trout and mountain whitefish.

Are we in Wyoming or what?
