The Lonely Island — comedy trio Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer — brought their 2009 breakout "I'm On a Boat" to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night (May 16), where it was given the classroom instruments cover treatment with Fallon and house band The Roots. The performance, and the rest of Samberg's visit to the show, were in support of Lonely Island's upcoming Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which parodies the life of a spoiled, narcissistic pop idol. Who's to say who they're even making fun of? Hard to even guess!

The cover itself is as charming as all of the previous classroom instruments Tonight Show installments, and Jorma stays true to his disgruntled, left-out character in the original clip. Re-experience the anthem with the 2016 version above.

The Lonely Island released their "I'm On a Boat" video just over six years ago, but doesn't it feel like three decades in internet-years? Everyone was just starting to figure out how to use social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to share things they thought were funny and/or cool back then, and we were at a similarly fresh-eyed point with Samberg + Co.'s patented brand of rap parody video. Do they still have the same comedic impact? Will Popstar feel fresh and hilarious or already-dated, given Justin Bieber's albeit-limited capacity for self parody and the public's increasing savviness about the trajectory of a world-famous music star? Find out when the film hits theaters on June 3rd.
