Casper police officers arrested two people for drug possession Monday after a woman was taken by ambulance to Wyoming Medical Center.

Matthew W. Mitchell, 23, and Makayla Helms-Pickett, 21, were each booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

Court documents say shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, a police officer was sent to an apartment on East 18th Street to assist EMS and the Wyoming Department of Family Services with a woman who was going in and out of consciousness after allegedly using drugs.

The woman was taken in an ambulance to Wyoming Medical Center, and police officers went to the apartment where the alleged drug use occurred.

Officers arrived and spoke with Helms-Pickett, who lived in the apartment with Mitchell, her boyfriend. She reportedly said the woman in the ambulance was a friend who had stayed the night and used drugs including methamphetamine, marijuana and a variety of pills.

Helms-Pickett allegedly told officers there were no drugs or paraphernalia "except weed" in the apartment. She gave them permission to search the residence, according to an affidavit.

Court documents say Helms-Pickett told officers she had been using since about Wednesday. She reportedly appeared very fidgety.

The search allegedly turned up six glass marijuana pipes, a methamphetamine pipe, 3.7 grams of marijuana, a small baggie containing methamphetamine, a scale, a silver marijuana grinder and three marijuana containers, all in a brown backpack.

Mitchell and Helms-Pickett reportedly told officers the marijuana was purchased in Denver, Colo., but did not have an answer for officers as to the source of the methamphetamine.

They reportedly allowed officers to search the rest of the apartment. A short time later, an officer allegedly found a small bag of methamphetamine between a mattress and box-spring in the bedroom.

Neither Mitchell nor Helms-Pickett would say who the methamphetamine belonged to, according to the affidavit.

Court documents provide no update on the condition of the woman who was taken to Wyoming Medical Center.
