UPDATE: The intersection of 12th and Beverly streets will be closed and traffic will be detoured until the power line has been repaired and the area has been secured for the safety of the public, according to a news release from the City of Casper.

"The public should avoid the intersection and plan an alternate route until further notice," the news release said. "The intersection is expected to be reopened later today."

Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain Power says they began restoring power at 11:30 AM and the number of customers still in the dark is down to 36.

They say it appears that a construction crane struck a power line and that was the cause of the outage. No word on when the final 36 customers will have power restored.

====================================================

Rocky Mountain Power is reporting a very large power outage in Casper.

The area covers a large chunk of the 82609 zip code, and affects almost 2500 customers.

Included in the area is the the CATC main office, and they want bus riders to know that they cannot receive calls until the power is restored.

The buses are running, and drivers can maintain contact through radio, but customers will not be able to reach the office.

Rocky Mountain Power says they don’t know the cause of the outage yet, and have no estimated time for power restoration.

WE have a call into Rocky Mountain Power and will update the story when we get more information.
