Raven-Symone spoke out in defense of former Univision anchor Rodner Figueroa after he made remarks about Michelle Obama that many deemed racist.

Huffington Post reports that during a live-filming of Figueroa's entertainment show, El Gordo Y La Flaca, he said, "Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of Planet of the Apes, the film."

The comments were a topic of conversation during the March 16 episode of The View. While many criticized Figueroa's remarks, Raven defended them.

"Was he saying it racist-like?" Raven asked. "He said he voted for her later. I don't think he was saying it racist."

While opinions among the co-hosts varied, Rosie Perez made an extremely valid point: "You do not disrespect the First Lady of our country."

"Michelle, don't fire me from this right now," Raven responded, adding, "Some people look like animals. Is that rude? ... I look like a bird! So can I be mad if somebody calls me Toucan Sam?"

According to the Huffington Post, the television personality was fired for his remarks. In a lengthy public letter to Michelle Obama, published on Latin We, Figueroa addressed his comments.

"I want to clarify that I'm not racist and in no way was my comment directed at you, but rather the work of the [make up] artist, which left much to be desired," he wrote. (Translated quotes via the Huffington Post.)
