The life of R&B singer & actress Aaliyah (born Aaliyah Dana Haughton) was tragically brought to an end on August 25, 2001 when the plane carrying the starlet and her entourage crashed shortly after take off leaving her music video shoot for the single 'Rock The Boat' in the Bahamas.

Aaliyah was born January 16, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in Detroit, Michigan. We celebrate her memory today on what would have been the singer's 34th birthday. In addition to a myriad of soundtracks, 3 albums: 'Age Ain't Nuttin But A Number', 'One In A Million' and the posthumous self-titled 'Aaliyah' , she also had starring roles in 'Romeo Must Die' along side martial arts superstar Jet Li & rapper DMX, and the vampire horror flick based on the Anne Rice novel of the same name, 'Queen of the Damned'. She had also begun filming on 'The Matrix Reloaded' and was scheduled to be in it's sequel a well.

During her musical career, she worked most often with producer/rapper Timbaland and singer/song-writer Missy. She was also engaged to marry Hip-Hop mogul and former best friend of Jay-Z, Damon Dash.

R.I.P. Aalyiah. Your wondrous songs and beautiful face are greatly missed.
