November 22nd will be remembered among the darkest days in United States history. 53 years ago, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.

Less than two months earlier, on September 25, 1963, Kennedy made his final visit to Wyoming.

The President first arrived in Cheyenne, stopping just long enough to briefly address the crowd that had gathered at the Cheyenne Regional Airport.

From there, Kennedy reboarded Air Force One and flew to Brees Field in Laramie. The President rode from the airport to the University of Wyoming Field House in a motorcade of convertibles, eerily similar to the car he was later killed in.

Nearly 13,000 packed into the old field house to hear Kennedy's speech, which focused on natural resource development.

Following the event, which lasted less an hour, Kennedy flew to Jackson, where he spent the evening at the Jackson Lake Lodge.

Although the trip marked Kennedy's only visit to Wyoming as President, in 1958, then-Senator Kennedy attended a Democratic Party fundraiser in Cheyenne.

During his speech in Laramie, Kennedy acknowledged the support of Wyoming voters, who had helped him capture the nomination in the Democratic Primary Election three years earlier.
