My life may officially be over...my love of bacon could be cut back by this news. The World Health Organization released a new report today which is frying up some bad news for bacon and sausage lovers.

The report suggests that eating processed meat can cause bowel cancer in humans and puts foods like hot dogs and ham in a category with tobacco, asbestos and diesel fumes. The WHO's findings are based on years of research on the link between red meat, processed meat and cancer. The research suggests that eating 100 grams of red meat per day may increase the risk of bowel cancer by 17%, while eating 50 grams of processed meat -- which is less than two strips of bacon -- daily raises the risk 18%. Meanwhile, meat industry groups are arguing that the research is inadequate. (Time)
