If you were baffled by the bizarre yet beautiful 'Diamonds' video (marijuana, horses, drowning -- what?), don't worry -- Rihanna says there's not supposed to be a cohesive story line at all. Phew!

"With every song it's a different story, so the visuals are very specific to that story and that world," the 'Unapologetic' singer told MTV News. "With 'Diamonds,' it was just a series of vignettes that we put together to help get the emotion across throughout the song 'cause the song changes and it builds, and there's no real way that you could do that. You just want people to feel that and I wanted little cutaways of interactions that would give you the right emotion."

It shouldn't be surprising that the clip is more about feeling than understanding. It's the latest in a series of videos RiRi's shot with director Anthony Mandler. Mandler was also at the helm of her interpretive clips for 'Only Girl in the World,' 'Disturbia,' 'Russian Roulette,' 'Man Down' and 'Hate That I Love You.'

Even if you can't grasp the meaning of the video -- it's a positive song with a somewhat heartbreaking set of images assigned to it -- Rihanna insists that 'Diamonds' is representative of 'Unapologetic' on multiple levels. "It was the right powerful record," she enthused. "It was hopeful. It was also different from what people are used to hearing from me. It was a song that meant something, and that's the whole theme throughout the album."
