St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner and you've most certainly got your Irish pub crawl around town planned. But the day after? Put down the Bloody Mary. The hair of the dog may be your best friend, but it won’t cure that hangover. Instead, try these ideas we swear by—and some (sour pickle juice?!) we’ll pass along just in the nick o' time:

  • Drink consumers over in Italy insist that a strong, fresh brewed espresso to help a hangover—and who'd of guessed it, scientists recently found that caffeine reacts against the alcohol. Shoot one down with an aspirin for an anti-inflammatory headache helper.
  • Over in Poland, it’s not the hair of the dog that will make life more tolerable...it’s a sour, yummy glass of sour pickle juice, apparently full of electrolytes and minerals. Our advice? Chug a sports drink like Gatorade to get a boost instead.
  • Russian bartenders insist that time in the sauna after drinking helps tremendously—but we advise that you do not try to step up to these master drinkers. Alcohol drains your internal fluids, so perspiring in a hot sauna is probably the last thing you want to do. Chug water instead.
  • Take your vitamins, like momma used to say. She’s especially correct come hangover time. Low levels of vitamins B6 and B12 can intensify a hangover, so take supplements (or a multivitamin) when you wake up.
