Selena Gomez Gives Passionate, Emotional Speech About Bullying [VIDEO]
Selena Gomez inspired fans everywhere with her tearful and heartfelt speech about bullying and forgiveness at Vancouver's WeDay event yesterday (Oct. 22).
The 'Rudderless' actress, looking radiant in a hot pink romper, spoke to the crowd from her heart, relaying her own experiences in her passionate address.
"I know what it's like to be judged, to be put down. I know what it's like to have other people form opinions of you without even knowing you, trying to dim your life. I know what you guys go through, because I go through it every single day," Selena shared. "But I don't let it get to me."
And while she revealed that it's an ongoing struggle to not give any weight to the negative comments, you can't let those people determine who you are as a person.
"You are not defined by an Instagram photo, by a like, by a comment -- that does not define you," she declared to much applause. "I want you guys to know that the trick is to focus on the love. And what I want you guys to do, every rude comment that you get, every person that tries to hurt you, personally or through the Internet, I want you to forgive them. Just forgive them. 'Cause they don't even know," she said, her voice breaking.
"… Do not limit yourself because of what others expect. We all deserve more than we think, and in the end, no one remembers those haters, those comments... Nobody remembers them. They're background noise," she continued. "Nothing defines you other than what you leave behind and what lives you touch along the way."
"… If you take just one thing from today, let it be this: I want you guys to believe in yourselves, because I believe in you. And you guys need to believe in each other," she concluded. "Like my friend Taylor [Swift] says, 'The haters are gonna hate. So shake it off!'"
