The Wyoming Cowboys opened spring football practice Tuesday with the first of 15 sessions over the next five weeks in Laramie.

Coming off an 8-6 record in 2016, the Mountain Division title in the Mountain West, hosting the MW Championship game and an appearance in the 2016 and final Poinsettia Bowl, the Pokes are looking to build off their recent success.

Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl opened the first day with a media luncheon. Beginning his fourth season at the helm, Bohl talked about where the team is now; had some general words about the squad; and also made mention of changes to the staff, plus a new title for assistant Brent Vigen.

Vigen also spoke after his new title was announced.

Later in the day, the Cowboys went through a 2.5 hour practice Tuesday afternoon. Coach Bohl said he was pleased with how the first one went.

There will be two Wyoming football practices open to the public and media. The first one is an outreach practice in Casper on April 8 at Natrona County High School. The second will be the annual Spring Game that concludes spring practice on April 22 at War Memorial Stadium.

UW returns to practice Thursday afternoon.
