Stacey Dash Calls For End of BET; BET Reminds Dash She Used to Be on BET

In 2012, BET unveiled "We got you" as one of its new slogans, but as of yesterday (January 20), actress Stacey Dash became one very big exception to the rule.

During an appearance on FOX & Friends, and amid Jada Pinkett Smith's urging for the black community to boycott the 2016 Oscars, Dash boldly called for the end of entertainment that caters exclusively to that same community. In an even more controversial statement, she said if the black community seeks inclusion in wider United States culture, it must scale back totems like Black History Month.

"Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black," she says in the video above. "If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard."

BET, which employed Dash as an actress on The Game in 2009 and 2011, called her out for her hypocrisy.

"Soooooo @REALStaceyDash can we get our check back... or nah?" the network's Twitter account posted after Dash's FOX appearance. BET CEO Debra Lee expanded on the remark in a statement, insisting that networks like BET are vital in honoring the often ignored black community, according to CNN.

"Through our award shows and programming we have recognized incredible talent that simply does not get recognized elsewhere," Lee said. "African American contributions to American culture are countless and we cannot and should not wait for anyone to acknowledge them."
