Supreme Court Puts Clean Coal Standards on Hold

The US Supreme Court has voted to impose a temporary hold on The administrations clean air standards for coal-fired power plants.

The vote was 5-4 in favor of putting the standards on hold until a court challenge has run it's course.

One of the states involved in that suit is Wyoming.

The plan was designed to lower carbon emissions from U.S. power plants by 2030 to 32 percent below 2005 levels. It is the main tool for the United States to meet the emissions reduction target it pledged at U.N. climate talks in Paris in December.

Though the hold is temporary, the case will inevitably end up back at the Supreme Court no matter how it fares in the lower courts. And this vote could portend how the court will rule then.
