The cottonwood and oak trees around the North Platte River are shedding their gold or brown foliage. I decided to take an early evening walk around Edness K. Wilkins State Park, and I was not disappointed.

As the sun set, the moon rose up from the eastern sky. The weather was perfect. The air was at the right temperature. The wind was heavy enough to keep the bugs away, but not strong enough to make you walk sideways. As I was strolling through the park, I thought to myself, this is why we live here.
