The national weather service has issued tornado watch in effect until 9:00 PM MST this evening for select areas in Wyoming.

This watch includes five counties in central Wyoming: Fremont,  Hot Springs, Natrona. In north central Wyoming: Johnson, Washakie. This includes the cities of Buffalo, Casper, Lander, Riverton, Thermopolis and Worland.

At 5:40 p.m., Doppler Radar was tracking a line of strong thunderstorys along a line extending from near Edgerton to seven miles south of Powder River and moving north at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. This includes the area of Interstate 25 between mile markers 217 and 252.

Half-inch hail and winds exceeding 40 mph will be possible with these storms.

These storms also may produce moderate to heavy rain over areas with already saturated soils, making the ground more susceptible to flash flooding and debris slides.

The National Weather Service cautions these storms may intensify, so monitor local radio and television stations and local cable television outlets.

To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency, which will relay your report  to the NWS office in Riverton.
