Born into a prominent Virginia family, David Jackson came to the Rockies when he was 33 and was soon teamed up with two other mountain men in the booming fur trade. While the others in the Rocky Mountain Fur Company covered a broader territory, Jackson remained in the Tetons, becoming the best-known trapper in a valley that attracted intense competition in the 1830’s. He earned a reputation as a respected leader – and gave a name to Jackson, Wyoming
