A head-on collision on Friday killed 3 people.

It happened around 5pm on US Highway 85 near milepost 37 north of Cheyenne.

A full-sized SUV was traveling southbound on 85, when for some reason, the driver, 44-year-old Cheyenne resident Lila Mikesell, crossed over the center line into the northbound lane.

There, she hit a minivan head-on. The crash not only killed Mikesell, but the driver and his passenger in the minivan, 26-year-old Miguel Cruz and his passenger, 29-year-old Selena Cruz. Both were from Lyman, Nebraska.

Reckless driving and impairment are being investigated on the part of Mikesell as contributing factors.

These are the 5th, 6th, and 7th fatalities on Wyoming’s highways in 2019.
