The richest people in the United States live in Wyoming according to an article by MoneyTips.com. The study took a look at two main categories for every state. The first is how much the average Joe makes a year. The second thing they looked at what how much the top 1% makes per year. The source of their data was the last census.

The majority of Wyoming has a moderate level of income making around $57K a year. That income level is on the high side of average compared to the rest of the USA. This number doesn’t account for all of the hard times that the coal and oil industry is currently suffering.

Then when you look at the wealthiest  1% Wyoming is the richest state in the country averaging over 5 million dollars. That number comes at no surprise when you look at the net worth of the richest people in the Cowboy State. The Christy Walton family is heir to over 34 billion dollars. The next richest person is a major stock holder of the Mars Corporation. Forrest Mars, Jr has a net worth of $21.7 billion. That 5 million now sounds like a small number.
